Serious injuries sustained in traffic accident

ZIZ News…June 15 2011 – A number of persons including children are suffering injuries following a traffic accident on Tuesday.

The Police in Tabernacle are investigating the accident which occurred at about 5:15 pm on June 14th 2011 on the Island Main Road at Belle Vue in the vicinity of the Anglican Church.

The accident involved motor omnibus HA 146 driven by Egbert Kentish of Challengers, and motor jeep P319 driven by Amanda Edmeade of Saddlers.

Investigations revealed that the bus was travelling from Saddlers to Basseterre while the jeep was travelling in the opposite direction when both vehicles collided.

The bus came to rest in the grass on the seaside of the road and the jeep was spun around to face the opposite direction. Both vehicles were extensively damaged. The driver of the bus sustained multiple lacerations about his body while his lone passenger Shirley Matthew of Belle Vue, sustained a broken shoulder and multiple lacerations.

The driver of the jeep along with her 6 year old child who was in the back seat sustained multiple lacerations, head and neck injury, while her 11 year old son who was seated in the front passenger seat escaped unhurt.

The injured persons were taken to the JNF Hospital where they were treated and detained. Investigations are on going.
