Several more items free of VAT

PMDouglasPressConferenceD(ZIZ News) — Christmas has come early for residents of St. Kitts and Nevis as the Federation’s Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, on Wednesday, revealed a long list of items that have been added to the Value Added Tax [VAT] exempt list.

The Family Shopping List, as it has been termed by the government, features three categories of items that will no longer have VAT charges applied.

The categories of items are Health and Hygiene, Balanced Diet, and Child Care and Education.

Listed under the Health and Hygiene category are items such as deodorant, body wash and soap, toothpaste, toilet paper, mouth wash, shampoo, conditioner, adult diapers, detergents and bleach.

Under the Balanced Diet category are chicken and other meat kinds, cheese, vegetable and other oils, ketchup, powdered drink mix, peas, beans and legumes and a host of other items.

The Child Care and Education items that are now VAT exempt include baby diapers and exercise books.
