SIDF implements Student Internship Programme for the Summer

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — With scores of St. Kitts and Nevis students returning home for the summer vacation, an internship programme has been unveiled by the Sugar Industry Diversification Foundation (SIDF).

An SIDF release said the internship for college and university students returning home on summer vacation will have give them an opportunity to work as interns.

“The Student Internship Programme (SIP) has been designed to provide on-the-job-training for students who are currently pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree full-time at a college or university overseas,” it said, adding that SIP is being implemented in collaboration with various businesses.

“SIP will assist students to gain professional work experience in their field of interest and obtain needed finances for the upcoming semester,” the SIDF release said.

It said students must log on to the SIDF website (www.sknsidf.org) to read the eligibility criteria and procedures then apply via the portal.

“Once their application has been accepted, they will be directed to make contact with the businesses where they wish to be hired as interns. Businesses which are interested in offering internships must also apply online,” said the news release.

The internship period runs from June 10 to August 29, 2014 and students may apply anytime during that period. Eligible students are encouraged to participate in SIP which aims to help them achieve their educational and career goals.
