SKELEC Hosts Black History Month Door Decoration Competition

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 19th, 2021 (ZIZ News) This week, the employees of the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) engaged in an internal door decorating competition in commemoration of Black History Month.

Corporate Communications Officer at SKELEC, Patrice Harris explained that there were a number of criteria outlined for the competition and the judging took place on Friday.

She said the company saw it fit to commemorate black history in this way because the employees can make a concerted effort to recognize the contributions of our ancestors.

“The company decided to celebrate Black History this year in a way it has never done before, we wanted to bring our staff together so that we can recognize the accomplishments that our ancestors, our forefathers would have achieved in celebration of Black History and so our staff worked together by departments, in teams to come up with these eye catching designs.”

Harris also explained that activities such as these which bring employees together assist in building their effectiveness as a team and help to remember our culture and our history.

“We believe that initiatives like these that allow our staff to come together will allow us to have a company that is more efficient, a staff that works together and we certainly don’t want to ever neglect our black history, our heritage, our Kittitian culture and so through a competition like this we’re able to celebrate all of these aspects of Black History.”

She thanked all the employees who participated and asked that members of the public also celebrate Black History Month.
