SKN Culture displayed in Jamaica

(ZIZ NEWS)– The culture of St. Kitts and Nevis was on display in Jamaica as members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Students Association of Jamaica (SKNSAJ) participated in events last week to mark the University of the West Indies Mona Campus’ 71st anniversary.

On Tuesday the SKNSAJ took second place when they participated in the UWI Homecoming Dress Day which was held under the theme: ‘Culturally Corporate’ and saw students representing aspects of their country’s culture.

The student association also placed second at the UWI home coming parade when on Thursday, the SKNSAJ invited the UWI Mona Campus to “Follow Its Heart To St. Kitts And Nevis”, embracing the Ministry of Tourism’s slogan.

In honour of the Federation’s 1 millionth passenger, the arrival of the largest cruise ship to our shores and the construction of the second cruise pier, SKNSAJ paid tribute to the booming tourism industry. There was a display of culture and folklore as masquerades, clowns and a lady wearing the national dress welcomed passengers of the simulated “MV SKNSAJ.”

Meanwhile members of the association at the University of Technology’s International Day captured the win on their booth display and food competition where local expressions along with local rums and delicacies were put on display.

The association’s P.R.O Chauntelle Hobson said “SKNSAJ is tremendously grateful for its success and we are always happy to make our federation proud.”

The student association has expressed thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, the St. Kitts Tourism Authority and all contributors who made their victories possible.

The St.Kitts-Nevis students association of Jamaica (SKNSAJ) is an organization comprised of nationals of St.Kitts and Nevis who are studying in Jamaica.
