SKN Defence Force Luncheon
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 20, 2019 (ZIZ News): Military officials and officers gathered at the Defence Force Camp for the annual St. Kitts –Nevis Defence Force Luncheon on Thursday.
Commander of the SKN Defence Force, Lieutenant J. Anthony Comerie said that the luncheon is an opportunity for junior members to be treated by their superiors.
“The annual Christmas luncheon is a military tradition of rolls reversed when junior members are served by superior although the origin of this custom cannot be traced to any specific event or time period it has been standard practice from the 18th century.”
Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary Josephine Huggins commended the officers on their comradery, service and their dedication.
“I commend to you the spirit of comradery which I know exist in this organization, I also would emphasize the concept of service which your commander has so fluently spoken about and I would add on my own behalf the concept of dedication. Whatever you do, you have to dedicate yourself to it and always make it your duty to do the best you can.”
Before the lunch the duty sergeant participated in the tradition of having a drink in its entirety.
During the ceremony, Lt. Comerie recognized two officers for their service and he said a plaque will be unveiled at both the Coastguard headquarters and the Defence Force camp to recognize the soldier and sailor of the year.
