SKN Wins Gold at CARIFTA Games

 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 9, 2023, (ZIZ Newsroom): St. Kitts and Nevis has won its first gold medal in the 2023 CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas.

 

Akanye Samuel Francis took first place in the Men’s Under-17 400 metre hurdles on Sunday afternoon clocking a time of 54.14 seconds.

 

After the race Francis spoke about what this victory means to him.

 

“I came into the race feeling very good.  I knew that I would’ve placed but I didn’t expect gold.  I did my best and I did what I had to do,” he said.  “I feel that its a very big achievement for my country and we came to stay.”

 

Second place went to Deandre Gayle of Jamaica with 55.1 seconds and Demarco Bennet, also of Jamaica, took third place with 55.27 seconds.
