(ZIZ News) — The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s Candidate for Constituency Eight, Dr. Terrance Drew is praising the Government for its healthcare initiatives.
Drew, a medical doctor by profession, says although the SKNLP-led Government has a solid record in health care, plans are afoot to do more for nationals and visitors, particularly through the introduction of a National Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking at Saturday’s launch of his party’s manifesto, Dr. Drew also revealed plans to construct three hospitals across the Federation.
He said, “There will be two brand new hospitals in St. Kitts and one new hospital in Nevis, the only place in the Caribbean where that will happen. And these hospitals will be new, upgraded, modern facilities that when you go there you would not believe that you’re still in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
“What services are we going to provide there? You’re going to get what you call a new Imaging Centre where MRI will be available here in St. Kitts. No longer will you have to take a plane to go to Antigua or to St. Maarten or to Miami to get an MRI done. It will be done right here in St. Kitts and Nevis. When it comes to the treatment of cancer, no longer do you have to travel to Trinidad and to Barbados to get the chemotherapy. Here in St. Kitts you will have an Infusion Centre to ensure that you can be treated right here in our Nation,” he added.
Dr. Drew also had words of commendation for the Federal Health Minister, the Hon. Marcella Liburd.
“Labour, and the Hon. Marcella Liburd as the Minister of Health, has delivered when it comes to healthcare. Look at what services she has brought since she has been minister. She has brought dialysis to St. Kitts because we know what is happening over there in Nevis. She has brought UTC Scan Machines to the hospital. She has brought a new I.T. system to the hospital. She has brought expanded healthcare to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and for that we must say that she has done a splendid job,” Drew said.
