SKNYPA launches Membership Drive

April 15, 2013 — SKNYPA is a strong and robust youth organization which aims to provide an avenue for the nation’s youth to become actively involved in nation building, volunteerism and policy making with regards to national issues.

The Organization which was officially launched on September 13th 2001 has been in existence for twelve (12) years. During its tenure, it has tackled issues surrounding tourism, education, climate change, electoral matters, national security and health.

Moreover, some of the notable pieces of legislation debated by members of the Organization include the Vehicle and Road Traffic Bill proposing mandatory seatbelts while driving in 1999, the Criminal Law Amendment Bill proposing firmer penalties for sexual offences against children in 2000 and Integrity in Public Life Bill in 2008.

Over the years, the Association has broadened its horizons and extended its line of work to include the hosting of the Desmond Eli Ward Primary School Debate Competition-Founded by SKNYPA, hosting Community Fun Nights with primary school-aged children dubbed COMCENTAPLAY and volunteering with the Turtle Monitoring Association. SKNYPA also hosted the recently concluded Digital Photo Contest which was held in collaboration with the Brimstone Hill History and Heritage Society.

As is evident, SKNYPA offers the youth unique opportunities to participate in a healthy mixture of activities such as those listed above as well as receive necessary training in parliamentary procedures, leadership skills, event planning and management.

To this end; the organization officially opens its doors to new members from the age of 12 – 30 years.
