SKTU Brings Cheer to Children at J.N.F

Teacher making presentation

ZIZ News…Oct 3, 2011 – The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union continues to celebrate this year’s World Teachers’ Week under the theme ‘Teachers for Gender Equality.’

On Sunday 2nd October, some members of the union made a surprise visit to the children at the Joseph N. France Hospital as one of their outreach events. The children received much cheer as words of encouragement, prayers for healing and fruit baskets were received.

When asked about the reason for the visit, Public Relations Officer Yvette Herbert responded, “As teachers our business is children and like candles we continue to consume ourselves to light the lives of the children entrusted in our care. Without children there won’t be a need for teachers hence, the St. Kitts Teachers’ Union took this opportunity to express our love, care and concern for these children.

The union has a track record for organizing community outreach events, so we thought it best to embrace our students who are hospitalized and bring them some hope and cheer. Also, we wanted the children and their families to know that teachers genuinely care and remember them and wish for them speedy recovery.

Research has shown that healing comes to the sick even faster when they are loved and have strong support systems so we hope that this surprise visit to the children by their teachers can trigger quick recovery and get our students back into the schools where we can continue to mould them.”
