SKTU First Form Scholarship Winners 2013

Basseterre, St. Kitts–August 2, 2013—- The St. Kitts Teachers’ Union (SKTU) is pleased to announce the recipients of its 4th Annual First Form Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2013-2014. The following seven students were awarded scholarships under this Teachers’ Union initiative:

Ashan Brookes – Newton Ground Primary
Nejohn Browne – Tyrell Williams Primary School
Kayla Clarke – Violet Petty Primary School
Deonte Liburd – Cayon Primary School
Rashelle Liburd – Seventh Day Adventist Primary School
Khiron Skeete – Seventh Day Adventist Primary School
Alyssa Taylor – Seventh Day Adventist Primary School

The Teachers’ Union First Form Scholarship Programme was first introduced in 2010 for students who are entering the first (1st) form level at the various secondary schools across the island whose parents are in the teaching profession and are active members of the Teachers’ Union. Each scholarship is of a $500.00 value to aid in purchasing the necessary tools and equipment necessary for their success in the upcoming school year.

Mr. Ron Dublin-Collins, President of the St. Kitts Teacher’s Union congratulated the recipients at a brief ceremony held at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce conference room on Monday, July 29th. Mr. Collins cautioned the recipients not to allow the negative forces to influence their behaviours. Parents were also charged to continue working with their children and to encourage a spirit of excellence in them. The ceremony was cheered by 1st Vice President, Mrs Valarie Richardson-Mason and Union Treasurer and Executive Director of the Secretariat Mrs Andrea Browne was also in attendance. The President Collins outlined new features of the programme that will realize further support of the successful students to ensure their success in First Form. The scholarship is part of the Union’s contribution to the holistic educational progress of our students.
