SoniaBoddie-2Basseterre, St. Kitts — Ms. Sonia Bodde, Public Relations Officer for the St.Kitts-Nevis 4-H group, is currently in Seoul, South Korea participating in the 1st Global 4-H Network Summit. The Summit which runs from Oct27th-November 2nd is celebrated under the theme, “Youth: Harnessing the Power to Change the World” and is being held at the Seoul Olympic Parktel and Olympics Gymnastics Stadium, and is hosted by the Korea 4-H organization.

The week long summit will bring together participants from over 70 countries, to engage in meaningful dialogue and activities, with the aim of helping the Global 4-H Network to strengthen its capacity, as it seeks to help youth all across the globe. The summit is focused on engagement and mobilization of the global movement with the goals of reaching more young people, by growing high quality 4-programs.

Ms. Boddie posited that she is very excited about her participation in this summit, because of the many benefits that the Federation’ 4-H stands to reap. She remarked, “Many are aware that in the past 4-H was one of the most vibrant youth organizations in the country, but then it became dormant. It was revived in 2011, but it has yet to reach its full potential, because we do not have enough committed volunteer leaders, and as a result we are unable to expand all across the country, as we would hope. Presently, we have just two fully functional groups. We need volunteers and also funding, for the organization to successfully thrive. The summit therefore, provides me with an opportunity, to share our experiences and ideas, and learn best practises from other leading 4-H organizations, which we can implement to create a more positive and progressive future for our local group.”

The PRO says she is registered to participate in sessions such as Designing Programs that POP, Programming for Life Skills Development and Career Readiness, How to get your organization ready for volunteers, Resource development, Investing in Today’s Youth and Marketing, just to name a few. The 1st Global 4-H Network Summit will end with a 4-H Vision Proclamation Ceremony.

The 4-H program is a youth development, social education movement which helps to inspire youth to be agriculturally minded and aid in their holistic development, by encouraging them to pledge their head for clearer thinking, their heart for greater loyalty, their hands to larger service and their health for better living for their club, community, country and world. The 4-H Motto is “Make the best better, Learn by Doing”.

Ms.Sonia Boddie is also the current Caricom Youth Ambassador for the Federation of St.Kitts and Nevis.
