SPACS to host 10th annual world food day fair and agricultural exhibition this weekend

Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 18, 2019 (ZIZ News): The Sandy Point Agricultural Cooperative Society (SPACS) is preparing to wrap up this week’s World Food Day week of activities with a food fair and agricultural exhibition on Saturday.

Now in its 10th year, the food fair and exhibition will kick off with an opening ceremony at the Sandy Point Market Place.

President of the Sandy Point Agricultural Cooperatives (SPACS), Lionel Stevens, said that this anniversary gives students the opportunity to see the various animals that make up the agricultural sector and gives families the opportunity to socialise.

Stevens said that this year is expected to top previous year’s considering that the Global Environmental Fund (GEF) is providing financial assistance.

He said the assistance from (GEF) will help to accommodate a wider range of participants including groups from Nevis who will participate in this year’s exhibition for the first time.

The 10th annual exhibition will see various stakeholders in the agricultural sector showcasing their local foods, products and services.

Participants include the St. Kitts Agro-Processing Unit, the Department of Marine Resources, SP Incorporated, Kevin’s Animal Corner, for the first time, the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society.

The two part event will continue with a youth spoken word contest and musical entertainment on Sunday October  from 4 -7pm.

The World Food Day week of activities are being held under the theme, ‘Healthy Diets For A #ZeroHunger World”.
