(ZIZ News) — It was a special day for a group of senior citizens on Thursday as postal workers visited their homes delivering food hampers.
Parliamentary Representative for the area, the Hon. Marcella Liburd accompanied the postal workers bring well wishes to the recipients.
Minister Liburd said it’s important to show appreciation to the older generation for their contribution to society over the years.
“I think what we’re trying to do is ensure that all of us in the public understand the treasure that we have in older persons so that we don’t just leave them aside, not notice them, discard them and so on and so forth. It’s a very important exercise that the Post Office is doing and I want to commend them to recognize those who contributed to the country a long time ago, but, of course, without them we would not be here. So it’s very important for us to always recognize our older persons and the contributions that they have made to the community and the country on a whole,” she said.
The delivery of food hampers also coincided with activities to mark October as Month of the Elderly.
