Sports Department / Development Bank League to commence Thursday

It is no longer a distant date. It is almost here.

The much anticipated tape ball Cricket league hosted by the Sports Department in Nevis and sponsored by the St.Kitts-Nevis Development Bank is set to commence this coming Thursday-28th November.

The tournament will bowl off with a brief opening ceremony at 5 pm at the ET Willet Park which will be the venue for all of the matches.
Ag Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton has confirmed that some 12 teams have registered for the male category of the tournament, along with six female teams.

The male teams have been placed into two zones—A and B.

The male semi finals have been scheduled for January 18th 2014 and there will be no semi finals for the females. The tow top teams will advance to the finals slated for January 19th 2014.

So as to avoid a clash with the ongoing Football tournament, the matches will be played on evenings when there is no Football at the Park. Therefore, matches will be played on Monday; Wednesday; Thursday and Friday evenings.

Teams are also kindly asked to note that they can report to the Nevis Sports Department at the Reliable Motors Complex and collect their fixtures any time after midday on Tuesday 26th November.

Teams are also further advised that rained out matches will not be replayed but points will be awarded to the affected teams.

Further, if a team fails to show up for two consecutive games, they will be disqualified from the tournament.

The teams that are registered are as follows:

Male Division: Empire; Church Ground; SDA Jets; Highlights; Brown Hill Legends; Pennyless All Stars; Rawlins Bush wackers; Easterns; Police; Hospital Paramedics; J Warriors and Young Stars.

Female Division: Highlights Int; Red Devils; Nurses; Butlers; GT United and Rozel’s team

After the opening ceremony on Thursday, all of the teams will engage in a one over, super over style knockout tournament.

Junior Minister in the Ministry of Sports, Hon. Hazel Brandy-Williams is already warming up to bowl the first delivery which will signal the start of the tournament.
