St Kitts and Nevis committed to fighting HIV

(ZIZ)-Minister of Health, the Hon. Marcella Liburd is calling on everyone to play a role in the fight against HIV and Aids.

During her World Aids Day address on Sunday, Minister Liburd said this is a time for reflecting and renewing the commitment to fight the disease.

She noted that the federation has recorded a drop in HIV related figures.

She said “I am pleased to report that we are now seeing in the region and in St. Kitts-Nevis a decrease in the number of new infections to babies and in general a reduction in Aids related deaths.”

However, Minister Liburd said that there is still more work to be done and encouraged everyone to get informed and get tested.

She also said, “As individuals, we ought to access testing and other services regularly so that we know our status and are therefore in a better position to continue managing our health or avoiding risky practices and behaviors.”

She added that we need to be as informed as possible and share that knowledge with others at every opportunity.
