St. Kitts and Nevis leads in exports to the United States for 8 straight months
Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — For the eight consecutive month, the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis continues to be the leading exporter of goods and services to the United States from the OECS and Barbados.
According to foreign trade statistics issued by the US Census Bureau, St. Kitts and Nevis and Anguilla are the only two nations that increased the value of exports and services to the United States in August while all the others either contracted or remained the same.
For August this year, St. Kitts and Nevis exported goods and services to the United States, were valued at US$4.3 million or EC$11.6 million compared to US$4 million or EC$10.8 million in August 2013, while the goods and services exported to the United States for the 8 months of this year, stood at US$38.7 million (EC$104.4 million).
For the month of August 2014, Anguilla exported goods and services to the value of US$400,000 (EC$1 million) to the United States, compared to US$300,000 (EC$810,000) in 2013; Antigua and Barbuda, US$200,000 (EC$540,000) compared to US$300,000 or EC$810,000 in 2013; the British Virgin Islands, US$300,000 (EC$810,000) compared to US$700,000 (EC$1 million) in August 2013; Grenada, US$500,000 (EC$1.3 million) compared to the same figure in August 2013; St. Maarten, US$3.1 million (EC$8.3 million) compared to US$4.1 million (EC$11million) in 2013; St. Lucia, US$1.1 million (EC$2.9 million) compared to US$1.4 million (EC$3.1 million in 2013 and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$100,000 (EC$270,000) compared to the same figure in August last year.
Exports of goods and services to the United States from Dominica and Montserrat were nil.
Goods and services exported to the United States from St. Kitts and Nevis for the first eight months of this year were valued at US$38.7 million (EC$104.4 million) compared to US$27.4 million (EC$73.9 million) in 2013.
For the same eight month period this year, Anguilla exported US$3.7 million (EC$1million); Antigua and Barbuda, US$6.4 million (EC$17.2 million); British Virgin Islands, US$2.1 million (EC$5.6 million); Dominica, US$1.2 million (ECS3.2 million); Grenada, US$8.2 million (EC$22.1million); Montserrat, US$600,000 (EC$1.6 million) St. Maarten, US$33.8 million (EC$91.2 million); St. Lucia, US$13.5 million (EC$36.4 million); and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, US$1 million (EC$2.7 million).
St. Kitts and Nevis companies exporting to the United States and their products are Lutron Liamuiga (dimmer switches and fan speed controls); Harowe Servo (St. Kitts) Ltd (small motors, PC Board Assemblies, Rotor Assemblies and resolvers); Kajola-Kristada (connectors, filters, trap and surface mounts; for the Cable TV and Communications Industry); CSR/DDL (CSR rum/brandy and Brinley flavoured rum products); Jaro Electronics (industrial motors and transformers) and Caribelle Batik, whose products are mostly purchased by cruise passengers and stayover visitors.
