Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 02, 2012 (SKNIS): With the Royal Visit of the Earl and Countess of Wessex taking place tomorrow (March 03), the organizing committee has mobilized specific contingencies to complete the final arrangements for the activities that will take place in St. Kitts and Nevis.

One such event is the Renaming of the St. Kitts National Capitol Park and Tree Planting Ceremony. Stanley Franks, Logistical Director told the St. Kitts and Nevis Information Service that a platform was being erected at the site for the Guests of Honour and the Cayon High School Steel Band which has the privilege of playing the National Anthem and selections during the ceremony. Tents will also to be set up in the area.

Mr. Franks explained that the current site was not the initial choice, but had been decided upon due to its grass cover, access to parking and cooling winds. He mentioned that his logistical team was providing accommodation for 500 spectators ranging from students to dignitaries such as ambassadors.

The Logistical Director further noted that Their Royal Highnesses will unveil the plaque bearing the new name of the Royal Basseterre Valley National Park, and plant a commemorative tree in the area. In order to carry out the final touches, he noted that the road Kim Collins Highway will be closed today at 6:00 p.m. He encouraged the general public to comply with the security measures that will be in place during the event.

“Of course we have ushers and so on but they [the general public] must obey the directions that are given to them by the police officers and security personnel who will be on the site,” Mr. Franks emphasized.

The Royal Couple is also scheduled to tour Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, visit the Pediatric Wing of the Joseph N. France General Hospital, the Children’s Home and Government House. A State Dinner will be hosted in their honour and the evening will conclude with Fireworks at Port Zante.
