St. Kitts And Nevis Records 5% Increase In National Pass Rate For 2020 CSEC Results

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 28 , 2020 (ZIZ News):The results are in! On Monday, The Ministry of Education revealed the much anticipated statistical results for this year’s CSEC&CAPE July- August 2020 examinations during a press conference at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College conference room.

The federation saw an increase of 5.4 percent in the national pass rate for CSEC compared to last year.

Minister of Education, Hon. Jonel Powell said that overall there were 5, 109 acceptable grades this year, which is 818 more than last year.

He then revealed the results for each grade received.

“Grades are distributed as follows; 1486 grade ones, 1920 grade twos and 1703 grade threes. Secondary Schools in St. Kitts returned 3143 acceptable grades while those in Nevis recorded 1012.”

The Minister noted that Washington Archibald High School accumulated the highest acceptable grades at 829 from 999 entries and Charlestown Secondary in Nevis recorded the highest at 568 from 642 entries.

He added that the federation recorded 970 less than acceptable grades from the 6, 079 entries.

For CAPE, the Education Minister said that from CAPE’s preliminary results 470 candidates across the federation registered for the exams with 1, 607 subject entries sat from the 1744 registered.

He said this result shows a decrease in both registered candidates and subject entries.

Minister Powell then provided the number of acceptable grades from each examination centre.

Acceptable grades returned for CAPE subjects by our 5 centres are as follows; Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) returned 919 out of 1011 subject entries, CFBC Adult in Continuing Education Division obtained some 61 of 67 entries, Her Majesty’s Prison amassed 28 out of 31, Nevis Sixth Form obtained 441 out of 492 entries and Nevis private returned 5 acceptable grades from 6 entries sat.”

He added that the pass rate for CAPE this year is at 90.48%.

Results are still pending however for French and Spanish Units 1 and 2 as well as Pure Mathematics Unit 1.
