St. Kitts and Nevis to Join World Post Day Celebration

WorldPostDay-1(ZIZ News) — “Post: Claim their Place in the Changing Communications Landscape” will be the theme in focus on Thursday October 9th, when St. Kitts-Nevis joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Post Day.

Speaking ahead of the observance, the nation’s Communications and Post Minister, the Hon. Glenn Phillip, put the theme into perspective.

“This theme is important for us to consider in an age of instant transfer of written communication, brought about by advancement in information and communication technologies. I am happy to say that the post do have a place in the advanced information societies of the 21st century and as a result, postal services around the world deliver more than 383 billion letters and cards and over six billion parcels each year,” the minister explained.

Here in the federation, World Post Day activities commenced on Sunday and will conclude on Saturday on October 11th.

Postal employees participated in a Corporate Worship Service at the Destiny International Church at Sandy Point.

“On Monday October 6th, postal employees would begin three days of distributing care baskets to the needy in our communities. On that same day, a staff exhibition would be mounted for the public, viewing at the General Post Office, Basseterre. The general public is invited to come out and view our history in stamps. On Tuesday October 7th, postal employees will visit selected schools in the federation to discuss with the staff and students the history and benefits of the postal system to our people. On Wednesday October 8th, all postal employees will engage in a staff department retreat that would further prepare the staff and management of the postal service to better serve the people of the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Minister Phillip then revealed the activities for World Post Day through to Saturday 11th.

“On Thursday October 9th, World Post Day will be commemorated at the Customer Appreciation Day in all post offices in the federation. Also on that day, the history of the post is happy to officially open the Dieppe Bay Post Office. All are invited to attend this historic event which starts at 4:30 and on Friday October 10th, postal employees will be guests on selected radio stations in the federation. There would be prizes to be won. Be sure to tune in and win. Then finally, on Saturday October 11th, postal employees and their families will be treated to a day of fun and relaxation.”
