Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 30, 2020 (ZIZ News): The Saint Kitts Diabetes Association is assuring its commitment to promoting the health and wellness of persons living with diabetes as the federation faces the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.
In a statement released on Monday March 30, the Diabetes Association said, “We advise that continued adherence to the protocols for diabetic care can significantly lower the at-risk status of diabetics to that of the general population”.
The Association asked all nationals of the Federation to pay extra care and attention to their individual health, in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic and used the opportunity to share general tips for diabetics to follow during this period.
All are being asked to, “Adhere to the Ministry of Health COVID-19 safety guidelines at all times, adopt additional home safety and personal hygienic practices, wash hands frequently and properly, adopt safe physical distancing practices, test blood sugar regularly, keep an adequate supply of prescribed medications, take medications as prescribed by your doctor, exercise daily and Report all abnormalities to your caregiver, nurse, or doctor.”
Family members of and those caring for diabetics are encouraged to monitor these patients more closely as they are part of a more vulnerable group of persons who can be severely affected by the virus.
