St Kitts – Nevis Amateur Basketball Association Statement on the COVID – 19 Pandemic

Since the Association’s media release on Friday last week, a number of our neighbouring islands have recorded positive cases for the COVID-19 virus. There has also been heightened appeals to the public by the Ministry of Health, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and NEMA for persons to refrain from gathering in large groups and to practice social distancing, thus requiring the closure of churches and the postponement/cancellation of other functions/events. The SKNABA therefore wants to do its part in containing the virus since it is in all of our interest to safeguard the health of everyone. The St Kitts-Nevis Amateur Basketball Association (SKNABA) has therefore suspended its 2020 Basketball league until Wednesday 22nd April 2020 as a precautionary measure in the nation’s continued fight to prevent and or mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

The SKNABA will continue to monitor the developments as it relates to the COVID-19 virus in St Kitts and Nevis, as well as regionally and internationally, as the situation remains a very fluid one and may require further changes on our part, should conditions not improve.

We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to all our stakeholders: players, coaches, and referees, desk officials, team officials, Executive Members and staff, spectators and supporters, for their patience and understanding in these difficult and unprecedented times, whilst we continue to assess this ever changing situation. We would also appreciate if our players and teams promote in their respective communities the recommended safety measures currently being advocated by our local health experts, and to remain safe during this challenging period.
