St. Kitts Nevis Annual Restaurant Week Officially Launched

(ZIZ News) — Tourism Authorities and Government Ministries partnered to host the 2nd Annual St. Kitts and Nevis Restaurant week, with a media launch held on Wednesday.

The Ministries of Tourism, Agriculture, The St. Kitts and Nevis Tourism Authorities and the St. Kitts and Nevis Hotel and Tourism Association, have partnered with local restaurants to facilitate the week of activities.

Media professionals gathered at the Ottley’s Plantation Inn for the launch of the event.

One of the owners of the Ottley’s Plantation Inn, Marty Lowell said, he and his staff at the hotel’s royal palm restaurant looked forward to participating in the week of activities.

“This is the opportunity for all our chefs to show their creativity, show their innovative skills and show their fabulous taste. I am delighted to say that two of our chefs will be participating and winning in the contest, hopefully. We look forward to meeting new people, having this go out to the world as something special that St. Kitts and Nevis is creating and also another way for all of the local restaurants to connect with the local community”, Lowell stated.

Director of Agriculture, Melvin James explained how Restaurant Week aims to support local food production.

“Restaurant week fits nicely into the Ministry of Agriculture’s mission to support and promote local food production and echo the goal of eat local during Music Fest, Open Day and our Agricultural Development programmes throughout the year”, the director noted.

Permanent Secretary in The Ministry of Tourism, Carlene Henry- Morton said Restaurant Week provides more than just exposure for the tourism sector.

“The Ministry of Tourism is excited and we feel very encouraged by the very positive response we are receiving again this year from local caterers and other eating establishments. We are fully aware that this initiative has implications for other sectors of our economy as well. It provides opportunities for building networks and strategic alliances for capitalizing on the synergies needed to bolster and strengthen the individual sectors that will participate”, Morton explained.

The theme for this year’s Restaurant Week is “Dine out and eat Restaurant Week 2016”

St. Kitts Nevis Restaurant Week 2016 runs from July 13 to 24.
