St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party Press Conference
ZIZ NEWSROOM– KB
The theme of the St. Kitts Nevis Labour Party’s monthly press conference on Wednesday was one of triumph as the party’s members congratulated fellow candidate Leon Nelson-Natta on his victory at the courts earlier this week.
Natta who is the Labour Party’s candidate for Constituency #7 challenged Public Service Act Statutory Rules 36 and 38 which prohibit civil servants from participating in political activity, holding office in a political organisation and contesting a general election.
Leader of the Opposition Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas congratulated Mr. Natta on his victory.
Dr. Douglas outlined what this new ruling means for civil servants of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Responding to a question about the law being implemented by his administration, Dr. Douglas said the law is very old and was put in place before his election to office.
High Court Judge His Honour Eddy Ventose ruled on Monday March 25th that that the restrictions imposed by the public service act are unconstitutional.
Wednesday’s press conference was Leon Nelson-Natta’s first appearance in that forum.
