St. Kitts Wins Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 30, 2023 (ZIZ Newsroom/Press Release):St. Kitts has won the Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament for the first time following a series of games over the weekend.

St. Kitts faced off against Antigua in the finals on Sunday.

At 24 for 3, the Antiguans were on shaky ground. However, a cameo from Gershaum Phillip and a 28 from Captain Ian Gore, got the eventual total to 118 for 6.

The St. Kitts team lost an early wicket, but Captain Shane Jeffers and Jatin Patel, teamed up in an enterprising partnership, which left them just four runs away from victory, when Jeffers was out.

Mr Jeffers also won the best batsman award with 203 runs. Robert Murray of St. Kitts was named best bowler.

Final scores: Antigua 118 for 6 in 20 overs: Gershaum Phillip 62; Ian Gore 28; Robert Murray 3 for 20, Jeffers, Leader and Liburd one wicket each.

St. Kitts made 121 for 2 in 17.2 overs: Jatin Patel 57, Shane Jeffers 45; Dean Williams and Franklyn Francis 1 wicket each.

Man of the finals went to Jatin Patel.
