St. Lucia preparing for the 33rd Regular Caribbean Heads Conference

St. Lucia’s Prime Minister the Hon. Dr. Kenny Anthony

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JUNE 8TH 2012 (CUOPM) – The Government of St. Lucia said it has started to make plans for the hosting of the Thirty-third Regular meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government in Castries, from July 04 to July 06, 2012.

“Already, the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed a committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Darrel Montrope, Cabinet Secretary, to plan and oversee the arrangements for the meeting,” a St. Lucia Government statement said.

The opening session of the conference will be addressed by four newly elected Heads of Government, the President of Guyana and the Prime Ministers of Bahamas, Belize and Jamaica.

The conference will also be addressed by the incoming chairman of CARICOM, Prime Minister of St. Lucia, the Hon. Dr. Kenny D. Anthony.

“The arrangements”, says Prime Minister Anthony, “will be modest but dignified. This is a very difficult time for all the economies of CARICOM and there is really is no room for extravagance of any kind. What we lack in our resources will be compensated by the legendary hospitality of our people. As plans progress, we will ensure that the public is kept fully informed as we are anxious that our visitors are made comfortable in our midst”.

The Thirty Second Regular meeting of the Conference of CARICOM Heads of Government was held in July 2011 in Basseterre, St. Kitts.
