Stars of Tomorrow Day Camp

ZIZ NEWSROOM, Basseterre, July 19, 2011 – A weeklong day camp is giving children a chance to strengthen their performance skills.

The Stars of Tomorrow Day Camp is training dozens of students in several areas of performance including musical theater, costume design, modelling, and dance.

The camp’s co-founder, Ozelle Martin, says it’s all about empowerment and self-expression.

“This performing arts camp is our way of empowering the youths of St.Kitts and Nevis, of course, through the arts, we wanted them to find a way to express themselves positively. And the performing arts provides a way for them to do such,” she said.

This year only girls registered for the camp and Miss Martin said she would have loved to have some boys registering as well.

“Sometimes when you say that you’re being involved in performing arts people tend to think that it’s all girls, and people associate athletics with boys. I think that’s the same thing that happened during our advertising. People thought that the performing arts camp was only for girls,” she said.

The camp runs from July 18 to 24 and ends with a recital at the Anglican Church Hall on Victoria Road on Sunday.
