Sugar Boyz Welcomed Home From CONCACAF Gold Cup

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 5, 2023 (ZIZ Newsroom): Sports officials and government representatives were among those at the Kayan Jet Lounge on Wednesday afternoon to welcome home the national senior men’s football team following their performance in the CONCACAF gold cup, which was played in various venues in the US.

A brief ceremony was held to welcome the team home.

Delivering brief remarks, President of the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association, Atiba Harris congratulated the team on qualifying for the gold cup for the first time in the history of the federation and encouraged them to be role models for aspiring footballers.

Minister of Sport the Hon. Samal Duggins commended the efforts of the technical and support staff of the SKNFA but singled out the hard work of the players which led to their successes.

The Sugar Boyz were eliminated in the group stage of the gold cup and President of the National Olympic Committee Alphonso Bridgewater, encouraged the team to take lessons from their defeats and use them to grow.

St. Kitts and Nevis made it to the gold Cup stage after defeating Curacao and French Guiana.

However their CONCACAF journey ended after falling to Jamaica, USA, and Trinidad & Tobago.
