‘Sword’ killed in Lime Kiln

ZIZ Newsroom, Basseterre, June 2, 2013 — Police are investigating a shooting incident that has left a Newtown man dead.

Dead is Sheldon Cannonier, better known as “Sword”.

According to reports, just after noon, Cannonier was walking along the road away from the Rivers of Living Waters Christian Centre when he was shot several times.

His body collapsed on the side of the road just outside the Good News Baptist Church, still clutching his cellphone.

Police were quickly on the scene, taping off the area and collecting evidence, as a crowd of onlookers grew.

One church member told ZIZ news that he was shocked and he couldn’t process what was going on.

Cannonier’s sisters repeatedly fell to the ground nearby wailing in sorrow. One lost consciousness and had to be carried away.

Up to press time, police did not indicate if there are any suspects as yet, but Inspector Lyndon David told ZIZ that the police are investigating the matter.
