Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 14 2019 (ZIZ News): Taxi Operators stationed at the Frigate Bay Taxi stand have come together to show their spirit of volunteerism through community service this week.

Driving the extra mile to remove waste like bottles, Styrofoam containers and fast food boxes.

A group of Taxi Operators have gone out of their way to show their national pride after rallying together to form a road clean-up crew that was seen tidying the Frigate Bay Road and the South East region on Friday morning.

While speaking with ZIZ, Taxi Operator, Mikey Dunrod of Hello St. Kitts Entertainment Tours explained how the initiative came about and said seeing garbage on the sides of the streets in the Frigate Bay and South East peninsular area was becoming unacceptable.

Dunrod said he is aware that cleaners are assigned to the area but said that cleaning the area felt like cleaning the office considering that the roads are where they earn their living.

Eldest of the group, Taxi Operator Calvin Joseph said it was an easy decision for him when the group approached him for assistance and said everyone should take pride in participating in initiatives such as this.

The group used the opportunity to encourage the public that Tourism is everyone’s business and asked that all do their part to keep our nation clean.
