Teacher charged for beating pupil with ruler

(Antigua Observer) Kingston, Jamaica – A 59-year-old teacher will appear in court on January 5 next year after she was charged with beating a student with a ruler at a prestigious St Richard’s Primary School in St Andrew.

The Jamaica Gleaner newspaper reported that the grade five teacher, Beverly Dinnall, was charged and offered station bail at J$50,000 (One Jamaica dollar =US$0.004 cents) .

Dinnall’s attorney Peter Champagnie told the newspaper that his client had been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

It’s alleged that the teacher hit the male student with a ruler, resulting in a shoulder injury.

Following a medical examination, a report was made to the police culminating in charges being brought against the teacher,’ the newspaper added.
