Teachers and Students To Benefit From Athletics Relay Workshop

Basseterre, St. Kitts. October 31, 2022. Teachers from all schools in St. Kitts will benefit from an Athletics Relay Workshop, as they prepare their student athletes for the upcoming athletics season. The afternoon seminar will be held at the Kim Collins Stadium, on November 3, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

“We have invited two teachers and a relay team from every school on the island, primary and secondary, to engage them on fundamental, strategic and efficient preparation of students for participation in relay events. Various facilitators will present on topics such as types of relays, passing zones and passing of the baton,” Timothy Morton, Athletics Coordinator within the Department of Sport, revealed. 

Additionally, the activity is a preparatory event for the Giant Malt Relay Festival, scheduled for early January 2023. 

The Relay Workshop is a collaborative initiative by the Department of Sports, SKN Athletics, Carib Breweries and the Ministry of Education. 

The Department of Sports is responsible for the overall development of youth through sport. This is inclusive of capacity building and creation of mechanisms to achieve excellence.

SKN Athletics is the national federation tasked with track and field promotion and continued development of local talent.

Carib Brewery is an established beverage company that has used its seating at the corporate citizens’ table to advocate for and support the continued development of athletics in St. Kitts and Nevis. 

The Ministry of Education is committed to providing all citizens with quality, lifelong education experiences, inclusive of sporting activities to add balance to national development.
