Telesur English has issued an apology to the government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis following a broadcast on their YouTube and social media pages reporting that St Kitts and Nevis had confirmed more cases of the novel coronavirus.

The erroneous information was shared in its entirety on Friday and caused much speculation on social media over the weekend.

Telesur has since corrected the error by sharing an apology along with an updated version of their news item in their newscast and news headlines.

Telesur has also corrected its running crawl that was seen to bottom of the screen stating that “St. Kitts and Nevis has recorded 10 additional of COVID-19 after police detained 13 migrants”.

That information was also false as those 10 test results were deemed negative in an official announcement made by Health officials from the National Emergency Health Centre in St. Kitts.

St. Kitts and Nevis has had a total of 15 confirmed cases of the Novel Corona-virus. There are currently no active cases in the twin island federation.
