Tennis Bounces Back With 5-2 Win Over Fordham

AMHERST, Mass. — After a tough loss to Dartmouth on Wednesday, the UMass tennis team bounced back on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 win over Atlantic-10 conference opponent Fordham. The Minutewomen (5-4) bested the Rams (4-2) in five of six singles matches.

In doubles action, Fordham took the No. 1 and No. 3 matches to clinch the doubles point. Sonia Bokhari and Chanel Glasper led Fordham’s No. 2 pair of Angelika Dabu and Julie Leong in a 6-3 unfinished match.

The Minutewomen dominated in singles play, winning five of six matches on the afternoon. Bokhari led the team at the No. 1 spot where she topped Fordham’s Elliesa Ball 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Yuliana Motyl followed closely behind, winning at No. 2 singles over Sarah Ali 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 3 singles, Arielle Griffin defeated Angelika Dabu 7-6 (1), 6-4.

Aarzoo Malik and Glasper had equally impressive showings as they each won their singles matches in straight sets at the No. 4 and No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively.

UMass will return to action tomorrow to face Atlantic-10 rival George Washington in a second conference match at 5 p.m.
