Tennis Posts Fifth Win In Last Six Matches, 7-0, At Providence

TennisFilePhotoBPROVIDENCE, R.I. – For the fourth time this season, the UMass women’s tennis team posted a shutout win in a dual match with a 7-0 victory on Friday night at Providence. The Minute women have now won five of their last six matches.

UMass, 6-3 overall, will return to action on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center against Atlantic 10 foe Saint Louis (12:30 PM). Admission is free to all and the first 20 fans will receive a free UMass tennis Black Out t-shirt.

In Friday’s match, UMass started off earning the doubles point by winning all three matches. Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito took an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles improving to 16-4 this year and 8-1 in dual matches.

Arielle Griffin and Aarzoo Malik took an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Chanel Glasper and Anna Woosley posted an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Yrazusta won her sixth straight in singles play with a straight-set win at the No. 1 spot (6-1, 6-3) improving to 13-6 overall.

At No. 2 singles, Arielle Griffin needed a tie-breaker set to get past Alana Prinos (6-4, 2-6, 10-5). Woosley, Benito, Glasper and Brittany Collens closed out the match with straight set wins to close out the sweep.
