Basseterre, St. Kitts (Customs PRO) – Twenty-five junior officers of the St. Kitts and Nevis Customs Department and Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service will participate in the Tenth Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC) Junior Officer Basic Training Course which opened on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Customs Headquarters, Bird Rock.
The course has been designed to raise the competencies of junior officers in all areas of Customs operations including Valuation, Classification, Risk Assessment, Legislation, Tariff Preferences, Marksmanship Principles, Importance of the Bureau of Standards and Customer Service. There are also modules in Situation Defusion, Effective Communication and Baggage and Personal Search.
New features of the 2014 module include the topics Criminal Investigation Awareness which will be lectured by retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Joseph Richardson and Rules of Origin of the Cariforum-European Community Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) by a guest lecturer out of the CARICOM Secretariat, Guyana.
Acting Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Georid Belle, admonished the participants that the CCLEC training is preparatory to a fulfilling career not only in revenue collection, border security and trade facilitation but in holistic service to mankind. Belle urged each officer to be focused over the next eight weeks of intense training.
The course concludes on Monday, March 31, 2014 with a closing ceremony. The department wishes each participant a successful tenure.
