The ‘Invincible’ CG Rebels Out Of Finals

ZIZ Sports…Nov 22 2011 – Jenerson France indicated on the evening of Monday 21st November that the Hon Joseph Parry CG Rebels had not lost a game in Nevis, since 1990.

Well, all that has changed. The hitherto ‘Invincible’ Basketball force on Nevis has been effectively knocked out of the finals of the Malcolm Guishard Basketball League.

In the action that continued in the league on Monday night, CG Rebels engaged the Cherry Gardens PJ’s in the first semi final encounter of the 2011 tournament.

PJ’s scored the first four points and looked ready for the fray but the CG Rebels bounced back with six of their own. It was an intense battle all the way through. At half time, the scores were tied at 27-all. At the end of the third quarter, it was 42 to 41 in favour of the Rebels.

The small but vociferous crowd was on edge. The tension was obvious. As the minutes ticked away, Vance Allen sunk a couple of crucial three pointers and the CG Rebels were unable to respond in kind, as the PJ’s defence mechanism went into overdrive.

With seconds on the clock and leading by all of ten points, the PJ bench was already celebrating. The players started to give each other high fives and when the final whistle was blown, they all went into wild celebrations. The final score line: PJ’s 58 CG Rebels 49.

In a post match interview, Captain of the PJ’s team, Jeffrey Lewis was obviously overwhelmed with joy. “It’s a nice feeling’, he stated. ‘It’s nice to know that we are the ones who finally defeated them”. He noted that he was feeling especially happy knowing that he was a former member of the CG Rebels.

Ace player for the CG Rebels team, Jenerson France noted that it was a great game but stated that on the night, his team was outplayed by the PJ’s.

The next semi final encounter is set for 7 pm this evening—Tuesday 22nd November when Ghetto Starz takes on home team, Church Ground Massives. The first in the best of three finals will be played on Thursday 24th and the second on Saturday 26th November.
