The St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force has increased its numbers with the addition of twenty four new soldiers

ZIZ News…June 22, 2012 — Twenty four new recruits of the St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force are now fully fledged soldiers following their passing out parade on Thursday at Camp Springfield.

Witnessing the end of this the first recruit training programme for 2012 were the Governor General His Excellency Dr. Sir Cuthbert Sebastian, the Hon. Marcella Liburd, other senior Government officials and members of the Diplomatic Corp. The Governor of St. Marten who was on a visit to the Island also graced the ceremony.

This is the first joint recruit training of the both the St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force and the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force which was held in Antigua over a five month period.

The training included Map Reading, Field Craft, First Aid, Military Drills, Time Management and other practical and theoretical subjects that will prepare the soldier for life in the Defense Force and in their own personal development.

There were two ladies among the batch which passed out on Thursday and one of them gaining the distinction of been the best in Physical Exercise.

Minister of Health, Community and Gender Affairs the Hon. Marcella Liburd in commending the new soldiers challenged them to be disciplined at all times and be upstanding citizens of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Other remarks were also made by Lieutenant Troy Lake of the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force, course instructor, who provided an overview of the training and Colonel Patrick Wallace, Commander of the St. Kitts Nevis Defense Force who delivered the charge to the new soldiers.
