The World of Work is Changing

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 4, 2020 (ZIZ News): As the federation observes Labour Day 2020 Minister of Labour, the Hon. Vance Amory says workplaces and employees must evolve as the world responds to the Covid-19.

In an exclusive interview with ZIZ News, Minister Amory said as Covid-19 places new demands on how we work, employees must adapt to what has become “the new normal”.

“This pandemic has affected the whole world of work; economies throughout the whole world,” he said. “It is not confined to developed countries or developing countries or third world countries or first world countries. So workers everywhere will have to look at a new regimen of how do we approach the world of work.”

He said as the discussion continues on the way forward for the world of work one of the priority areas that must be addressed is the health and safety of workers

’’That really is something that we’ve really talked about a lot. What about the health and safety? What about in the areas which would ensure that workers are comfortable. I think that after this, after all that has transpired and in the change in the way that workplaces and employers and persons who go to work in workplaces are being required to look at the health conditions, the safety conditions, these are all things that would have to be put in place,” he said.

He said there needs to be a paradigm shift around the world which would include the physical layout of a workplace, how employers look at workers, and how businesses interact with customers.
