Third O.E.C.S Invitational
Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 05 — The St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association will be hosting the 3rd O. E. C. S. Invitational Athletic Championships at the Silver Jubilee Athletic Stadium, Bird Rock, on Sunday 9th June 2013 starting at 3:00 pm.
Over 75 athletes from the OECS countries including Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and host country St. Kitts and Nevis will compete in events in this one day competition.
Teams will arrive on Saturday 8th June to compete in a number of track and field events including the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4 x 100m relay, 4 x 400m relay, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put and Javelin Throw. There will also be exhibition events held for the top 8 Junior Girls and Boys in the 100m, 200m and 400m events.
Preparations are currently undertaken by the Association to host a successful championships, as this will be the first International competition held on the new IAAF certified Mondo track surface, which was completed in March this year.
Performances recorded by athletes at these championships will also be eligible for use, if they meet the qualifying standards, for this year’s World Athletic Championships which will be held in Moscow, Russia 5th to 16th August 2013.
