Thousands turn out for the opening of Carnival and two other shows at the Sugar Mill

ZIZ News…Dec. 18 2010 – Carnival 2010/2011 is off to a great start following the official opening on Friday night by the minister with responsibility for Carnival the Hon. Marcella Liburd.

In her brief address Minister Liburd called on everyone to act responsibly while attending the Carnival events and wherever they may go during the Christmas and Carnival festivities.

As part of the official opening as well the female calypsonians went at each other in the Female Calypso showdown and the Best of the Rest show.

In the female show Queen Jackie was dethroned by Queen Anastasia to take the First runner-up position , Singing Kibby second runner-up and her sister Miss Independence taking the third runner-up spot.

In the Best of the Rest show the man who was the most popular in the tents King Lala was able to take the crown from the Hot Rod who placed first runner-up and Lord Felix, first time in the arena, placing second runner-up.

A huge crowd was on hand to witness both shows which were complimented with the appearance of Singing Sandra out of Trinidad and Tobago who did three of her popular selections.

The action continues tonight at the Sugar Mill the new venue at the Football Stadium with the Soca Monarch competition.
