Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 13, 2019 (ZIZ News): Heritage consultant and author of the book, “Places of Memory”, Leonard Stapleton is facilitating an ongoing island-wide community tour training progra

mme in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.

In an interview with ZIZ, Stapleton explained that the programme will focus on educating and training members of society about the history in their community.

The areas of focus include St. Georges, St. Anne’s, and St. Mary and St. Peter’s. The heritage consultant added that it is also his wish to conduct a training workshop in Capisterre as well.

Mr. Stapleton said the five day programme takes the participants on a virtual tour of the island.

He said the goal is to empower persons who live in the communities so that they can feel confident when presenting their knowledge of their villages to visitors.

The workshop is designed to train community members on the skills needed to appeal to all senses

Stapleton said he is grateful for the ministry of tourism’s assistance in providing training manuals that will be used to teach the community members lessons on history and culture.

The training programme began in St. Peter’s with an introductory tour to the well known Sofa stone and several other historical sites in that parish.

The community tour continues from Tuesday June 18 in Sandy Point at the Charles E Mills Secondary School.
