Trophy placed at Sports Museum
Sports Page — Friday, 24th May 2013 — Manager of the Nevis Masters’ team that secured championship honours in the recently concluded Leeward Islands Masters’ tournament, Joe Claxton, on Thursday presented his team’s winning trophy to the Nevis Sports Museum for display and safe keeping.
Claxton pointed out that the trophy presented was the one that can be kept by the team but the team is still awaiting the huge revolving trophy which will be sent after the necessary mark ups are completed.
Nevis not only secured the trophies but also secured winnings of $480.00 US. Nevis has already commenced preparations for hosting next year’s tournament and in light of this, the Masters team has already started a savings account and according to Claxton, plans are afoot to have two matches which will be used as fund raisers.
The proposed matches are:
The winning Nevis Masters’ team versus the rest (the other players who did not play in the X1 that played in the finals)
The winning Nevis Masters’ team versus the Nevis senior team currently in training for the LICA tournament.
Other winners from the recently concluded Masters’ tournament were:
Most runs – Junie Mitchum of St Kitts
Most Wickets- Charles Hendrickson of Nevis
MVP — Junie Mitchum of St. Kitts
Best Wicket Keeper – Livingston Harris of St. Thomas
President of the Leeward Islands Masters’ Association, Alkins Rogers, also took time out to thank Ms Alicha Warner at Marriott in St. Kitts for the exceptional role she played in making the 2013 Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament a memorable one for those teams who stayed at the Marriott Hotel.
‘I know that without her assistance life would have been extremely difficult for most if not all of the teams. She went way beyond the call of duty to ensure that in these economic challenging times we received discounted rates,’ he said.
He also congratulated team Nevis for winning but added a note of warning:
‘On behalf of the Executive of the Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Association, I would like to Congratulate NEVIS for winning the 2013 Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament. Your team displayed shill, grit and determination.
They came with one intention was to win the 2013 Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament and they certainly did. In every department they were simply outstanding. The class of their players was very evident and I want to thank the Former West Indies players for continuing the trend started by Curtly Ambrose and Ritchie Richardson when they represented Antigua & Barbuda in the Leeward Islands Masters Cricket Tournament.
Let me warn Nevis that all teams will be coming to take their title.
Enjoy your sweet victory,’ he said.
