Tropical Storm Watch issued as Danny Weakens

(ZIZ News) — A Tropical Storm Watch has now been issued for St. Kitts and Nevis, as Hurricane Danny weakens back to a Category One system.

At 5pm, Hurricane Danny was located at about 570 miles east of the Leeward Islands.

Information from the National Hurricane Center suggest that Danny is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph. A turn toward the west and an increase in forward speed are expected. On the forecast track, the centre of Danny is expected to approach the Leeward Islands Sunday night or Monday morning.

Reports from Air Force Reserve and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hurricane Hunter Aircraft indicate that maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 75 mph with higher gusts.

The National Hurricane Center said additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Danny is expected to be at Tropical Storm strength when it reaches the Leeward Islands.

Danny is expected to produce two to four inches of rain over the Leeward Islands through Monday.
