Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 25

, 2019 (ZIZ News): Work on Bourryeau Road forms part of phase two of the Island Main Road Rehabilitation Project currently being undertaken between Keys and Saddlers Village.

Phase two covers the areas between Cayon and Challengers travelling eastward.

In an interview with ZIZ, Chief Engineer at the Public Works Department, George Gilbert said the work in Lower Bourryeau is an upgrade that will see the removal of the sharp bend in the road which will enhance the safety of drivers and pedestrians.

He also explained the process to determine the new shape of the road.

Mr. Gilbert said sufficient drainage has also been considered as part of the reconstruction.

He said there were quite a few challenges experienced at the beginning of the project. Some of which led to land negotiation.

Mr. Gilbert confirmed that despite the challenges faced, work on Lower Bourryeau Road is expected to be completed by the first week of December.

The aged asphalt will be removed from the old version of Bourryeau Road. Therefore, that road will no longer be available for road users.
