US Coast Guard repatriates 50 Cubans

Miami, Florida (CMC) — The United States Coast Guard on Wednesday repatriated 50 Cuban migrants who were interdicted in three separate incidents, to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba.

The Coast Guard said all three interdictions included unseaworthy, homemade vessels that “posed significant risk to the migrants attempting to make the perilous journey.”

According to reports from the Coast Guard, on May 8, the crew aboard the Carnival Breeze cruise ship located a rustic vessel south of Dry Tortugas, Florida, with 27 Cuban migrants aboard.

Later in the day, another vessel was interdicted south of Marquesas Key, Florida, with 15 Cuban migrants aboard.

On May 9, during a patrol, the crew aboard a Coast Guard aircraft located eight Cuban migrants north of Matanzas, Cuba.

The migrants were transferred to a Coast Guard Cutter and later repatriated.
