UWI Technical Advisory Committee Meets in St Kitts

ZIZ News — The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is hosting the annual meetings of the Technical Advisory Committees to the Grants Committees of the University of the West Indies at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort for two days.

At the opening ceremony on Thursday, Professor E. Nigel Harris gave an overview of what takes place during the committee meetings.

He said, “Over the past few years, what we have done with this occasion is really to have the leaders of our university report on the achievements and the challenges of their campuses.”

As keynote speaker, Prime Minister the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas expressed how honoured St. Kitts and Nevis is to host the committee meetings for the second time.

“We are honoured because St. Kitts and Nevis has long had a very fierce appreciation of the power of education. The power of education to transform lives, to expand options, to counter unfairly determined social hierarchies and to facilitate instead the full flooring of each individual through access to education,” he said.

Participants of the meetings include Permanent Secretaries and Senior Officers from the Ministries responsible for Tertiary Education of the sixteen contributing countries and the Ministries of Finance of the campus countries of Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
