Verchilds High triumphs over ‘Washie’; Charles E Mills edges Basseterre High

Basseterre, St. Kitts. January 31, 2020– The Verchilds High School (VHS) emerged victorious over the Washington Archibald High School (WAHS) last night, January 30, as another chapter of their storied rivalry in the Department of Sports High School Open Basketball Tournament was closed.

VHS won 65 to 61 to avenge an earlier loss to WAHS in the first round of play. J’ Quante Fraser was the lead man for the VHS with 30 points, and an impressive 24 rebounds and 2 steals.

Dario Esdaille and Kinito Dias also chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds and 12 points 5 rebounds, respectively.

WAHS’ offence was led by Jalen Saddler who had 24 points and 12 rebounds. Gary Thompson also contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds.

In the other game on the evening, the Charles E Mills Secondary School (CEMSS) defeated the Basseterre High School (BHS) by the slimmest of margins, 45 to 44, in a low scoring affair.

The lead man for CEMSS was Garfield Hodge with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

BHS’ Cecil Angel led all scorers with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals.

Four teams are competing in the league. The defending champion is the Verchilds High School.

On February 4 BHS will play against WAHS in the first match of the evening. In the other match, CEMSS will play against the VHS.

All matches are being played at Basketball City.
