Verchild’s Pavilion to be named at Athletics & Wellness Day event

GlennPhillip-5Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) — The pavilion at the Verchild’s Sports Complex is to be named during a ceremony to start an Athletics & Wellness Day event on Saturday 6th December.

Organisers said Friday that the Pavilion will be named during the ceremony which begins at 2:00 pm.

“Residents of Constituency #4 (Challengers to New Guinea) will be treated to an athletics and wellness event,” said Minister of Sports and Youth Empowerment and Parliamentary Representative, the Hon. Glenn Phillip.

He disclosed that a highlight of this programme will be training by a contingent from Olympics Canada and the naming of the pavilion after a revered sports administrator, who has improved sports in community and also managed football and cricket teams.

An organiser of the event has also disclosed that a number of other sporting icons from the community will also have areas of the pavilion named after them.

“Olympics Canada will demonstrate a number of drills and conduct some exercise sessions and various sports teams from Constituency #4 are expected to attend as well as students of the Verchilds High School and the Tyrell-Williams and Bronte Welsh primary schools. Doctors will also be on hand to provide various basic health checks,” he said.

He also pointed out that the event is part of the “Doing More in #4” programme of Member of Parliament, Hon. Glenn “Ghost” Phillip.
