Veteran Scorer Hosts One Day Workshop

Long serving and renowned Cricket scorer on Nevis, Trevor Parry, was the main facilitator at a one day scorers’ workshop on Thursday 19th June.

The session which commenced at about 9.30 am concluded just after midday.

Parry was ably assisted by Cricket Coordinator within the Ministry of Sports and regional Umpire, Carl Tuckett.

Approximately 20 persons attended, consisting mainly of the Coaches from the Sports Department and the Education Department.

The participants were taught the basics of scoring and were guided by a cricket match simulation, during which various scenarios were presented and they were taught what the scorers should do in each unique case.

They were also taught to recognize the various signals from the umpires and what they meant.

The participants indicated that they learnt quite a lot during the session and would now have more respect for scorers as they were forced to recognize the deep concentration skills that such persons must possess.

The workshop was particularly timely, as the Coaches prepare to assist in the Primary School cricket championship, which bowls off today—Friday 20th June.
